Videoprojektoren werden mit unterschiedlichen Techniken angeboten: Die größte Auswahl hat man bei den LCD-Projektoren. Sie bestechen durch kräftige Farben, hervorgerufen durch die Flüssigkeitskristalle auf dem LCD-Paneel, welche beim Betrieb einzeln durchleuchtet werden. DLP-Projektoren sind ein wenig teurer, die Technik ist noch relativ neu. Das Bild entsteht mittels Lichtreflexion auf winzigen Spiegeln. Es wirkt nicht so leuchtend, dafür aber homogener und weicher. Beide Bauarten vereinen die LCOS-Projektoren ineinander: Sie arbeiten mit Lichtreflexion auf Flüssigkeitskristallen.
